The Illumin8tives Present: The Code Mane

50

Sorepo (Soul Repossession) Records proudly announces the release of the debut single from one of its flagship bands, The Illumin8tives.

Hailing from Selma, Alabama—the heart of the voting rights movement and a significant hub of civil rights activism in the 1960s—The Illumin8tives embody the city’s conflicting legacies of victory and struggle, regression and redemption, order and chaos, light and darkness. Just as Selma’s history tells a tale of two cities, so too does the identity of this remarkable group.

Their debut single, The Code Mane, is as complex and layered as the band itself, making it the perfect introduction for a group destined to spark a movement—one that is bound to transform art and resonate throughout the world. If  The Code Mane were a film, it would be a psychological thriller. The lead vocalist crafts such vivid imagery that the song becomes cinematic; yet, the rawness of the lyrics and the authenticity of the delivery serve as a powerful reminder that this is no mere fiction. The music itself is slow, crawling, and immersive, providing an ideal soundtrack for a harrowing tale centered around an archetype often misunderstood in American life but closer to home than we realize.
