New track “jealous” from Southport’s up-and-coming pop artist Rachel Newnham was released on November 17th. It was Tate McRae’s “she’s all I wanna be” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “jealousy, jealousy” that served as inspiration for Matt Wills’ (Charlotte Plank) pop song “Jealous,” which Wills co-wrote and produced.
The song explores my struggles with body image and the trap of constant comparison to others, as well as the reality that “perfect relationships” are rarely as they seem and that most people’s social media profiles don’t reflect their true selves. I wanted to make a song to let people know it’s normal to experience envy occasionally and that it’s alright to do so, because I don’t think it’s discussed enough in music.
Rachel’s performance on the popular BBC 1 show “I Can See Your Voice” attracted the attention of prominent judges like Amanda Holden, Simon Webb, Jimmy Carr, and Allison Hammond, and has since gone viral with over 15 million tiktok views and over 25 thousand tik tok followers. Fans may follow Rachel on social media to learn about her upcoming music and performances after the single dropped on November 17.
