MADITRONIQUE is Welsh Alt-Pop Artist/ Producer Maddie Jones, originally from Ystrad Mynach, now based in Cardiff. ’Take Away the Lights’ is a love song to time spent with family and friends at Christmas.
Take away all the material trappings of the
season, and what lies beneath is joy in each others’ company. Nostalgia for Christmases past is underscored with lush strings, and 80s synths, as well as her trademark vocal harmonies.
“The song is really written for my nan. I was with her in hospital, and she asked if she would be out in time for Christmas. It made me think about all the stuff that goes around Christmas, the lights, the decorating, and presents, and how it all basically means nothing without the family and friends that you do it for. That’s why I included sounds from our actual Christmas videos in the bridge of the song. Those people are all you need really. It’s one of the most honest and unguarded songs I’ve ever written, I think.” – MADITRONIQUE
Proudly DIY since 2018, MADITRONIQUE has been played on BBC 6music, 1 and 2, frequently been playlisted on BBC Radio Wales, played festivals including Glastonbury and Boomtown and recently appeared as a session vocalist on the new Bastille/Hans Zimmer single ‘Pompeii MMXXIII’. She is currently working on new music (in Welsh for the first time, having started learning Welsh in 2023), and developing a gig theatre show.
’Take Away the Lights’ was written, performed and produced by MADITRONIQUE, and mastered by Charlie Francis. There is also an accompanying music video filmed in her nan’s house, the location of many fond Christmas memories.
