Since its creation at the end of the 90s, SUMO has explored many territories: Electro, Soul, Funk, Trip-Hop, Dub… True to its early spirit, the band—comprised of brothers Alex (guitar, vocals) and Fred Sumi (bass, production)—refuses to be confined to one musical style and continues its musical journey.
The band went into exile in Cuba in 2019 after two previous tours (Habanarte festival in 2016 and Cubadisco in 2017), which allowed them to form sincere and lasting friendships. In this new adventure, SUMO expands the family to become:The new album Oya is an Afro-Cuban rock record—a sort of UFO with multiple sounds: Afro-beat, Rock-Fusion, Latin-Jazz, and Afro-Cuban Soul voices.
The group surrounded itself with a tribe of musicians for the creation of this album, produced in true immersion in Havana. Fred left the group at the end of 2021 to devote himself to his new project Edkub. Now, Los Hermanos del Alma continues their journey with a new lineup of Latin musicians active on the European scene: Ramon Plaza on drums, Juan Pablo Cisneros on bass, Eulogio “Mamby” Arguelles Puey on percussion, Francisco “Pancho” Llagostera, Santiago Pagès, and Daionys “Jhony” Martinez on vocals.
