Links of Faith: Carrying the Legacy Forward

77

The Normandies are a Christian country and rock band from Detroit, Michigan. The band is made up of three members: Sam Wood, who is the lead singer and guitarist, Kathy Justin, who plays bass and sings backup vocals, and Andrew Montgomery, who plays the drums. The name “The Normandies” comes from the street where the band members worship together, showing how their faith is a big part of their identity and music.

The Normandies play music that is simple in terms of instruments—just guitar, bass, and drums—but they make it sound big and powerful. The main message of their music is to find Jesus, who they believe can change lives. Sam Wood, the lead singer, has a strong background in both music and faith. He is the son of a pastor and used to work as a tour manager for an artist who was signed to Atlantic Records. This experience has given him a deep understanding of how music can influence people, and he uses this to write songs that talk about the power of Jesus and the importance of faith.

The band’s goal is to glorify God through their music, spread the gospel, and also to encourage and entertain Christians. Their songs are meant to uplift and inspire people in their faith journey. One of their songs, “Chain,” is set to be released on May 7, 2024. This song is the second single from their third EP, which is titled *A Link in the Chain*. The song has a midwestern Americana sound, influenced by artists like Steve Earle and John Mellencamp.

“Chain” was inspired by Sam Wood’s reflections on his family’s legacy in ministry. His father and grandfather were both in ministry, and now Sam is following in their footsteps. The song talks about how life is not just about us, but also about those who came before us and those who will come after us. The title “Chain” symbolizes how each person is a link in a larger chain of faith and legacy.

In summary, the Normandies are a band that blends their love for music with their deep faith. They aim to create songs that are not only enjoyable to listen to but also carry a meaningful message about faith, family, and the power of Jesus Christ. Their music, like the song “Chain,” reminds listeners that they are part of something bigger than themselves.
