Antonio Adolfo breathes new life into Cole Porter’s timeless composition, “Love For Sale,” with a vibrant Brazilian twist. Featuring his octet of top-tier Brazilian horn and percussion players, Adolfo arranges the song as an ijexá, a rhythm originating from Bahia in northeastern Brazil. The arrangement masterfully blends samba and samba-funk grooves, creating a dynamic and refreshing interpretation of the classic.
A pianist, arranger, producer, and educator, Antonio Adolfo’s musical journey began in Rio de Janeiro, where he was raised in a family steeped in music. His mother, a violinist with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, inspired him to begin his studies at the age of seven. By seventeen, Adolfo was already performing professionally, learning from esteemed mentors such as Eumir Deodato and Nadia Boulanger in Paris.
Throughout the 1960s, Adolfo led his own trio and collaborated with some of Brazil’s most iconic singers, including Elis Regina, Flora Purim, and Milton Nascimento. His latest rendition of “Love For Sale” showcases his unique ability to fuse jazz traditions with Brazilian rhythms, offering a compelling celebration of musical innovation.
