“Jam Jar” is the leading single from JUICE BOX’s upcoming sophomore EP, slated for release in April 2025. The track is a dreamy and textured blend of alternative folk and electronic elements, signaling a refined new direction for the duo. It began as a simple guitar idea from Alice, which blossomed during a creative writing session in April 2024. The process took an unusual turn when they decided to write music to accompany an old Snoopy cartoon—specifically, one where Snoopy makes pizza. Inspired by The Japanese House’s “Spot Dog,” Phoebe composed a piano score to match the cartoon’s mood, laying the foundation for what would become “Jam Jar.”
The title came first—“Jam Jar” struck Phoebe as a perfect song name, prompting Alice to begin developing lyrics and melody while Phoebe crafted the instrumental alongside her. At that early stage, the guitar wasn’t even part of the composition; instead, the sound evolved around ambient textures and experimental layering. A standout element of the track is the use of violin—despite neither artist being classically trained, they recorded raw, scratchy takes that Phoebe manipulated into shimmering, ethereal effects they describe as “fairy dust.” This approach set the tone for the rest of the EP and helped define the soundscape JUICE BOX is now embracing.
Lyrically, “Jam Jar” explores the theme of reconnecting with the version of yourself that feels most carefree and authentic—usually around someone who makes you feel safe and whole. It’s a song rooted in peace and balance, drawing on comforting metaphors like the smell of rain on dry ground (petrichor) or the stillness of the other side of a seesaw. These sensory images mirror the song’s calming energy, creating an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and hopeful.
Mixed and mastered by Ollie Lloyd and Matt Payne at Shipyard Audio, and distributed by Mahogany Songs, “Jam Jar” is both a sonic and emotional anchor for JUICE BOX’s next era. It sets the stage for their upcoming EP with a sound that is simultaneously personal and expansive, raw and beautifully produced. “Jam Jar” isn’t just a lead single—it’s the heart of what’s to come.
